Singirainii, Kajiado East .
When an October 13th, 2026 11 a.m. news item on Inooro TV was aired, I felt moved to pity.
The news item described the difficulties some of the interviewed residents of Singirainii in Kajiado East are currently facing due to lack of drinking water and water for their livestock.
The interviewed womenย said they have to leave their homes with donkeys at about 3am to trek for over 45 km to fetch water possibly from a well. Apparently the well or borehole pump is solar powdered and they thus have to wait for the batteries to be charged before they can fill their containers with bought water. According to a man interviewee, a 20 litres container (popular as mtungi) selling at sh 100.00. The man explained that transportation presents a real headache in the area seeing that only Boda Bodas are in use due to poor terrain and remoteness.
“Only those people with cash use the motor bikes which charges sh 500.00 for single rides even for short distances,” the man was quoted explaining.
At times, however, the well water is not enough and they have to wait longer or leave without water.
The interviewees explained that their tribulations date back three months ago and since Tata Chemicals Magadi closed down.
They further explained that the company used to supply them with water freely and would often carry the water on a train (on a rail line heading to the Tata factory in Magadi Town) and fill the three tanks closer to their homes with water… ..
These people made a passionate plea for any help to get drinking water and water for other domestic uses and for their cattle as well….
