MultiChoice Talent Factory graduates debut feature now on Maisha Magic:
Becoming Madiba, a production of the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) East Africa Academy Class of 2025/6, brings fresh faces and a new story to audiences in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania, it was revealed on October 14th, 2026.
This is a new feature film to the screens and which is set to premiere on GOtv and DStv’s Maisha Magic channels. According to a review, the film story is set out in Nairobi, following Madiba, who produces hand-made shoes in Kibera, an informal settlement in Nairobi. When Wanjiru Njoroge, heiress to a footwear empire, notices them and posts a photo online, his work is suddenly in the glare of the whole country, and the attention comes with complications Madiba never neither expected nor planned for.
Notably, the film premiered on Maisha Magic Plus (DStv channel 163 and GOtv channel 503) on Saturday, 17th October 2026, at 8:00 PM EAT; it was later aired on Maisha Magic East (DStv channel 158 and GOtv channel 502) on Sunday, 18th October 2026, at 8:00 PM EAT.
For the MTF graduates behind the production, the film represents a practical milestone in their development as filmmakers. As part of the program, the Class of 2025/6 has taken its learning beyond the classroom to complete a feature-length production, applying its skills to the process of developing and delivering a film for television audiences.
“Producing a feature film gives our students the opportunity to put their training into practice. It’s a collaboration across different film-making disciplines and experience and shows what it takes to bring a story from development to the screen. This practical experience is an important part of preparing emerging filmmakers to contribute to the industry,” says Victoria Goro, MTF East Africa Academy Director.
MTF’s hands-on approach is designed to equip young African creators with skills that can be applied across the film and television value chain. Through practical production experience, mentorship and industry exposure, the program helps in developing talent while creating opportunities for emerging filmmakers to contribute to the region’s growing screen content offering.
The latest premiere builds on the East Africa Academy’s track record of bringing graduate productions to big audiences.
With Becoming Madiba, the Class of 2025/6 adds another production to this growing body of work, bringing a locally rooted story to audiences across the African continent and showcasing the creative talent being developed through MTF.
