Are all human beings both victims of, and culprits to, perceptions??
Perception is the process by which we organize our thoughts. As a noun, it denotes a belief, opinion, or thought held by many based on appearances (C2 level). It is also Sensory Awareness and how we use our five senses to understand the world.. (see my Britannica source).
Even as i jot down my views, I am aware that these thoughts are generated by my own perception of my world and different ideas or thoughts. These thoughts will, on the hand, also generate diverse, divergent, & different perceptions in different people.
Yet, what I find quite interesting is how perception influences thoughts and ideas, and ideas generation in people.
For instance, strangers, passers-by and other people including close and distant family members will always, as natural rule, form different perceptions of any of their subjects or persons they relate with.
And granted that people cannot read one’s or others’ thoughts, they will thus always generate ideas trying to explain or even explore why their people of interest behave as they do.
Even when one independently decides to share his or her thoughts, fears, ideas or perceptions of situations or his or her realities, different perceptions will still emerge and which may present some pressures unless the person or subject is strong enough to independently stand for individual thoughts, principles and beliefs.
Interestingly, most perceptions of others, situations or circumstances tend to be judgemental especially given that people (the owners of such perceptions) really cannot understand what the others go through, went through in past years or are currently going through.
Such different perceptions make the ‘perceptions holders’ think or even believe that they would live or even perform better were they in their subjects’ position or rather ‘shoes’.
It is such beliefs that make most observers (rather the outsiders living without our individual lives) to tend to believe that they have solutions to the issues we (the insiders or those being judged from the different perceptions) face.
.. They intrude into our spaces trying to commiserate and to offer advice or ideas they rightly or wrongly believe can give us solutions.
Many of the observers and essentially ‘perceptions holders/carriers’ may not understand why or how our lives (the judged) ended up as they can now see or perceive.
They may not know that we missed chances in the past due to different reasons or that we made wrong decisions but still stood up again in determination and hope and faith. They may not understand why we reached the decisions we did because even we, in reflection, cannot explain or understand why we made the decisions or why our lives ended up as currently perceived…
As individuals, fortunately, each one of us have private and individual thoughts & thought processes.
So we inherently have the power to hold and process our thoughts and perceptions of people or circumstances. This autonomy is vital for control of our own lives.
We must keep praying to God almighty for alertness and presence of mind so that we can always recognize when or whether our perceptions are detrimental especially to our lines of thoughts and how these can injure our peace and eventually our mental health… …
We must always try to process our thoughts and question life and especially try to understand how or why things end up as they do.
If we cannot get answers, despite our sincere and determined efforts, we must always endeavor to become and remain the world ‘realists’ and silently repeat the hyms of the old song, “whatever will be will be…the future is not ours to tell…”
