Absa Bank Kenya Appoints Diana Mwaniki as the Acting Chief Financial Officer

Ms Diana Mwaniki has been appointed the acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Absa Bank Kenya PLC, effective 1 July 2026, pending regulatory approval, it was announced on July 2nd, 2026..

The announcement follows the appointment of Mr Yusuf Omari, the incumbent CFO, as Interim the MD & CEO following the recent resignation of Mr Abdi Mohamed as MD and CEO at Absa Bank Kenya.

Ms. Mwaniki assumes the role after serving as the Bank’s Head of Financial Decision Support since joining Absa in September 2022. She will lead the Bank’s finance function, providing strategic financial leadership and oversight as Absa continues to execute its growth strategy in addition to delivering sustainable value for customers, shareholders and other stakeholders.

Mr Omari, in recognizing the appointment observed that Ms. Mwaniki has been instrumental in strengthening Absa’s financial planning and decision-support capabilities since she joined the Bank. “Ms. Mwaniki brings deep financial expertise, strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her appointment ensures continuity in our financial stewardship as we continue executing our strategic priorities and creating long-term value for our customers, colleagues, shareholders and the communities we serve,” Mr Omari affirmed.

A seasoned finance executive with more than 17 years of experience in financial services, Ms. Mwaniki has built a distinguished career in financial strategy, performance management, governance, internal controls and risk management. Her appointment reinforces the Bank’s commitment to strong financial stewardship and leadership continuity.

Prior to joining Absa, Ms. Mwaniki Diana held senior finance leadership roles within the banking sector, where she was responsible for strengthening financial controls, enhancing governance frameworks, and driving effective financial oversight. In these roles, she played a critical part in supporting operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and sound risk management practices.

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree holder from the United States International University (USIU) and a Banking and Finance Degree undergraduate from Moi University, she is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and has also completed executive leadership training at Duke University.
