SUSTAINABILITY—A very topical issue treated with & in different perspectives by different people
Personal reflections:
When I think of the sustainability principle and concept, every aspect of life comes into focus from time & other resources management, work & play and even mundane things and activities such as sleeping, resting, talking, reading, watching the TV /films, chatting /talking, beauty search and even grooming and personal hygiene.
For instance, if one wastes time idling and doing nothing when his or her chores remain neglected, the time wasted will never be recovered and something may definitely go wrong making life less sustainable.
When we waste water too much such as when we visit public toilets whose floors are already cleaned by the minders and we assume the role of the cleaners and go splashing water on the floors of the small spaces, ( – assumedly to remove dirt and bugs that the previous users may have deposited on the floors through mere walking in and their shoes), we not only waste the scarce resource but also waste our time and burden the toilets minders with having to worker unnecessarily harder in fetching more water.
When some men turn washrooms into personal spaces and shave beards and wash and splash beard hair water all over the sinks and floor (as recently happened in one washroom spaces at Agro house in Nairobi), we not only waste water but also overwork the minders and also inconvenience other other users….
in the same spaces, we inconvenience others when we throw tooth picks and other litter into urinal bowls and these end up blocked – – sustainability gets compromised when the toilets minders have later spend more time unblocking the utilities…
When we spend too much time in social places chatting and even discussing others, the important chores and duties we are supposed to perform remain neglected and things may go terribly wrong..
We may also end up misusing our hard earned cash and thus eventually reduce the National ratio of savings and investments…
On the other hand, we may end up spending too much of our time in beauty and self grooming parlors….. Some of the time could have been used more constructively…
Some of our beauty ‘accessories’ such as long, almost curved, plastic nails may stop some of us from performing some of our normal mundane activities including washing😊…
but then technology (we may reason) has blessed us with utility equipment such as dishing and clothes washing machines though these may be accessible to only a select few.. Yet, we end up using to much electric power which also tends to raise the carbon (CO2) footprint 🤔
………..yet the ‘sustainability principle’ debate and discussions must continue and be promoted to enable as many people as possible to fully understand and appreciate it.
Hopefully, as the discussions gains traction, people will understand the issue and make better & informed personal decisions whether or not to embrace the concept.
More discourses on the same will help in more and better analysis the concept..
People may after all realize whether or whether not sustainability is a mere unattainable ideal or whether (or not) it is an attainable long term goal and how it could be made more practicable, relevant and more useful to the majority of the world citizens.
