Magical refurbished Moi Avenue

Something is magical and attractive about the Nairobi CBD’s new look Moi Avenue.
Walking spaces are wide and attractive with an aura of freedom. The chandeliers and ground lighting is a site, a grandeur to bold at night and an added blessing to Gen Z photographers strewn across some of the most main streets here (Kenyatta & Moi Avenue, & aga Khan walk and City Hall way).
Our historical, legendary Kencom bus stage is also now very attractive and one feels total at liberty in the wide space that is definitely absorbing, somehow dissolving human traffic.
I believe the work at space is yet to be completed.. Seeing that the demolished rain and sun shelters are yet to be reinstated.
But on a general note, I think there is need for shelters along all the refurbished and other streets and avenues. There’s also need for provision of comfortable sitting spaces along the streets and a bit far from traffic to forestall any dangers from moving vehicles and especially the ‘Nganyas’ often driven at speeds above the CBD speed limits.
For a long time Nairobi streets have been hostile to its daily residents including visitors, pedestrians and commuters.
When the rains hit, pedestrians and others find themselves scampering for safely along buildings canopies some not wide and adequate enough.
When the sun gets scorchingly hot as is happening currently this January (2026), residents are also forced to seek solace from their spaces to buildings’ canopies, a reality that affects business premises.
Had i participated in ‘public participation’ forums prior to the steers refurbishment endeavors, these would have been my two most important suggestions…
Unfortunately, I never got wind of the ‘public participation’ forums or the period this happened if at all it happened 🤔
