Foreign Entries Spice Up Concours 2025
The Africa Concours d’Elegance is an annual event that continues to attract thousands of classic motor vehicles and motor Bikes fans and other fun seekers who gather to among other things enjoy family outings in a fanfare experience that also provides a variety of foods and drinks. Remarkably, the fans and other guests throng the Ngong Racecourse venue in September of every year. This year, among the early entries are those received from England, South Africa and Tanzania in an event scheduled for Sunday, September 28th, 2025 in memory of Bob Dewar, who passed on in early 2025 and was a member of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club Kenya and among the main founders and supporters of the event, promises to be exciting with vehicles never seen before spicing up the event.
One of the overseas entries is the Austin 7 from England entered by Madatali Chatur. This historic car made in 1937 has an engine capacity of 748cc and with a saloon body and two rigid axles. Nick-named “Baby Austin”, this car was at the time of its manufacture one of the most popular cars produced for the British market and sold well abroad.
Jonathan Somen has also entered a gleaming red Alfa Romeo 2000GTV. Originally from South Africa, this beautiful coupe made in 1976 has been imported to Kenya and will be a great attraction at the Concours. The 105-series Bertone was one of the most iconic Alfa Romeos built and the later model 2000 GTV carried what was probably the most famous Alfa Romeo engine ever built.
Victor Odero will also be making his debut at the Concours with his 1988 E30 BMW M3, the only one of its kind in Kenya. Restored with passion and precision, this car is a fine example of BMW’s rich motorsport legacy, a true icon of performance and engineering.
Other entries already received include a strong contingent of Alfa Romeos entered by members of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club Kenya, the organizers of the event. Among them is the 1983 Alfa Romeo Giulietta of Rishi Chandaria, Gurvin Bassi’s Alfa Romeo Twin Spark made in 1989 and the 1971 Alfa Romeo GTV entered by Leo Otieno.
The motorcycle ring will also be roaring with life. Last year’s overall motorcycle winner David Odhuno leads the early entries with his 1989 Yamaha XTZ 750 Super Tenere along with a 2006 BMW GS 1200. He is flanked by Albert Karisa, a newcomer with a 2005 Honda CBF 1100.
Long time motorcycle enthusiast Douglas Kiereini makes a strong comeback after a long break from the Racecourse with a record six bike entries. These include three Yamahas, two Hondas and one Kawasaki which will be spreaacross the classes ranging from the small bikes category (below 600cc) to the big bike category (over 1300 cc).
Also expected onboard for the event are the Uganda Bikers Association and Pearl Bikers Africa. Several members of these Clubs have been riding from Uganda every year to take part in the event and are a popular attraction in the motorcycle ring.
