Cultivation of patriotism and responsibility is not this:

Dumping of garbage in polythene sacks and all manner of other bags, and even openly in no bags at all, along the road and the throwing garbage into neighborhood compounds including very personal waste from our esteemed women and reckless littering is not what responsibility & patriotism is about.

These irresponsible behaviors and actions are rampant in Dagoretti South and especially along Kikuyu rd. between Waithaka centre and Swamp….

While people who may consider themselves as sojourners who live in these areas for a while and later shift to other areas depending on changing needs, the people who have historical or ancestral roots & ties or who have developed properties in the areas must be more responsible.

.. They must take better care of the environment.

.. They must cease hiring careless, uncaring and irresponsible garbage collectors, often using ‘Mikokoteni’, who collect the garbage from homes only to dispose of this (especially at night) along the road often blocking pedestrian paths.

.. They must stop releasing effluent from homes onto the roads without caring   about where the effluent will eventually land and collect…

If all people including the ‘sojourners’ and the ‘locals’ cannot take care of their land seeing that all of us have a God – ordained duty to be stewards of the resources that God has graciously given us including the general & neighborhood environment, who shall perform these noble duties for us?

Are we not setting grounds for judgment from the Creator and ultimate owner of the environment..?

… Even if we do not believe in a mighty Creator and ultimate Judge then let us not bury our heads in the sand… For we know and now realize that ‘nature’ gets tired with our irresponsible actions and often viciously retaliates as we are seeing today in climate change challenges.

We will be in rude shock if we will always expect the authorities legally and constitutionally mandated to help us in these areas to address the situation fail us as they often do.

Moreover we have waited for far too long without seeing any changes.

For instance, some huge Nairobi County trucks are at times seen on sight collecting waste bags deposited on pedestrian footpaths at appointed areas outside gates. However, possibly on earlier arrangements, the garbage collectors collect only on designated areas and leave intact all the other waste bags strewn about on different locations on the road…

Perhaps we could call this a selective waste management approach from the body mandated to collect all garbage anywhere it is sited dumped.

Perhaps it is the trucks crew who are letting the authorities down… But even if this was to be the case, the collecting authorities should be sending to site people or supervisors at least weekly to check on the situation!

So this happens to be the sad dilemma and reality in parts of Nairobi County periphery areas.

It is this very sad reality that must nudge us into becoming more responsible citizens and civilians of the Kenya Nation and Nairobi County.

If we cannot live up to the challenges of becoming and remaining responsible people, then we are letting God almighty and our creator down by not fully utilizing our thoughts and reasoning capabilities that He so graciously endowed each one of us with.

Let each one of us, especially those who reside, visit or have diverse interests in Dagoretti South, honour our Creator by showing a bit of more and better responsibility in minding our sub county and the land in general.
