Challenged to rise above current days crises and to reside in God almighty’s embassy here on earth

Twenty-nine years ago one evening, rains fell with a kind of vengeance in intensity in Nairobi City.
The rains continued for many hours and i happened to be one of the people caught off guard in Nairobi streets.
I could not wait for the rains to recede and though I did not have an umbrella or heavy clothing, I left my work station and headed to the legendary Kencom stage which fortunately had bit of sheds and shelter then unlike currently when the sheds are no more.
Infact, no PSV stage currently has a shed and shelter (to the best of my knowledge and observation) and one shudders to think of how things will be in October, 2026 when the much publicized El Nino- influence rains will hit the country. Many of the rain and sunshine sheds /shelters have been removed in the ongoing beautification and refurbishment of the city streets.

Infact it is when I shared my fears on the ‘rumors’ nay predictions of the more-than- ever before much touted & hyped rains that a born again Christian friend challenged me not to be over worried and over-anxious ….
“God almighty might even stop the rains or reduce their intensity. He will definitely, if we pray and believe, offer us reprieve from the rains expected intensity and feared damages.
” As a committed Christian, rise above the crises and endeavor to occupy God’s embassy here on earth. Let the embassy ambience and environment be with you in every step wherever you shall be!” my friend challenged me in a recent phone conversation.
I am still trying to fully absorb the challenging statement.
…..
And back to that scary evening, I found hundreds of commuters stranded at Kencom and since the stage was overflowing with humanity, I dared to cross the City Hall way road and sought shelter at the Hilton Hotel canopies to wait for destiny.
Worried and confused and wet and tired from standing, i had not managed to scramble and fight my way into any of the buses that were intermittently arriving at Kencom and I was still at the Hotel canopies by 1 am.
This is when I met one of my dad’s friends and age mate (we used to fondly call him George of Satellite and may his and his wife’s souls continue resting In peace).
I immediately felt a bout of strength and hope in meeting the elderly George.. Perhaps he reminded me of my late dad (may his and my mom’s souls also continue resting in peace) and after the usual chit chat we started the waiting journey together.
By then the rains had considerably receded but drops were still huge but not as ferocious as before.
“How will you reach Waithaka? George asked me and since I had no straight answers, he suggested that we travel to his home in Riruta Satellite (Setti, to many of my contemporaries). And by God’s grace, we eventually boarded a Setti bound KBS vehicle and eventually, past 2am, we arrived at his home wet and fatigued but very thankful to God Almighty.
I can hardly recollect the details of whether I dried myself up and put on dry clothes… All I can recall is that I thankfully spent the rest of the wee hours of that night on a sofa set seat in his sitting room until morning when I arose and headed home to Waithaka of course after being blessed by the hospitable family with breakfast …
It is such memories that return to my mind when I constantly hear of the el nino rains news.
And even when clouds gather, like they have gathered today (11-09-2026) at 5.50pm in Nairobi CBD, I am reminding God almighty that I am His son and member of His heavenly embassy here in Nairobi….
