Is LIFE FAIR REALLY? Even if not, it is still life!!!

Saturday, May 16th 2026 was an eventful day. I was honoured to watch and learn during the second testing, this year, of the power and adaptability of the EV Explorer, car no 29, the Kenyan Made electric vehicle (EV) that debuted in the Rhino Charge in 2025 and performed quite well in reaching 5 out of the mandatory 13 checkpoints.
The EV Explorer car no 29, manned by a team of five bosom friends who have participated in the Rhino Charge since year 2002 & whose team leader is Mr Richard Kiplangat, returns to the Rhino Charge again this year. The grueling motorsports competition is scheduled for May 30th this year at some location in Samburu County.

First forward and Saturday afternoon found me in Nairobi CBD at a work station where I finished my business just before 8pm. At around 7 pm, I had noticed loud sound of falling rain and when i looked out of the window, i confirmed that rain was falling very heavily almost violently.

I composed myself but like hundreds of other Nairobi sojourners, I felt rather uncomfortable wondering silently: “when will the rains stop and when shall I reach my abode?” I felt moved to murmur a silent prayer, ‘please God almighty, help us so that the rains recede to allow us reach our houses safely.’
I  also thought of a loving niece who works someplace in Karen and has to daily travel to CBD to connect to her abode and also offered a silent prayer for her safety.
And since i could not leave my station immediately, I delayed a bit and true to His faithfulness, God reduced the rainfall intensity to manageable drops and i managed to use my portable umbrella to reach the bus stage where fortunately, I found a bus that had several empty seats.
After choosing my position all set for the journey home, a man joined me at my row and I gave him space to pass to the seat next to the window.
Given the intensity of the rains, several seats were wet and even some spots inside the bus were receiving rain drops via the roof. After the bus got full to capacity, the journey to our different destinations started.

When rains are heavy and the PSV full to the brim with passengers, the mind focus shifts to how safe the driving feels and the inconvenience of push and shove from passengers who ideally should not be standing next to you.
In this mode, i did not realize that my neighbor was quite wet and that, with all due respect, he was stinking– rather his wet jumper was producing a terribly foul stench.
My concern and concentration was on how the PSV driver was manouvering traffic and the floodef on road.
Well into our journey and towards its ultimate end was when my PSV neighbor – who had also dozed off during most our journey – excused himself. It was only at this point that I realized that almost the whole left side of my jacket was wet from that PSV seat contact.
I regretted not having created a space, a buffer zone, that would have limited the clothes contact.

When I boarded the next vehicle to my final destination, after some struggle to gain entry given the heavy rains, flooding and traffic jam, and sat next to a young post- teenage lass, i somehow noticed that she was rather uneasy.
Little did i know that my relatively wet jacket was also stinking offensively.
… It is only when I arrived at the house that I noticed of a terribly foul smell. After wondering about the source of the stench, I realized that it was oozing from my jacket.
I immediately removed it (and looked for another) and placed it far contemplating what to do with it.

This is when reality hit me that the young lass could have, perhaps, behaved uneasy as a reaction to the foul stench that I had involuntarily acquired just from the mere sharing of a PSV seat with a stranger.

This is when the question ‘IS LIFE REALLY FAIR?’ formed in my mind. Then I courageously surmised, ‘even if life turns out often or sometimes as really unfair, it still remains LIFE…
