A time of reckoning/distressing, hard realities
Human innovation & creativity have been with us for generations benefiting mankind in many ways.
Yet, our mortal innovation has had limitations. For instance, at times, one wonders whether situations would have been better had we tried to ‘discover’ a means of making our consciences more sensitive by perhaps discovering a ‘conscience meter’ which would ably test how effectively each person conscience works cautioning and stopping human beings from being heartless or encouraging people to be more caring or cautioning us when we bend more toward heartlessness or other narcissistic tendencies.
I know this and such areas are a preserve of God’s almighty who is the ultimate creator and innovator so mine remains an issue of building castles in the air in my rounds of reflections in life.
But still, I have to reflect and reflect on happenings, day in day out, in our beloved Nation (Kenya).
Many of the happenings have earned us the notorious ‘man-eat-man’ Society title especially in recent years & the recent past. Our behaviors and actions tell of a people with dead, sun-scorched consciousness or conscience.
Often, I prefer not to believe the things that I hear people say, yet with the saying ‘where there is smoke, there’s fire’, I realize that I could be burying my head in the sand in my unbelief.
For instance, in recent days, unconfirmed reports (or rumors rather) claim that some of our food-crops farmers, especially those cultivating maize, vegetables and fruits etc cultivate the crops very ‘consciously’…
That the crops meant for domestic or family /personal consumption is cultivated in special plots, portions or areas with the farmers ensuring nil use of pesticides & herbicides and instead using certified organic manures or fertilizers.
On the other hand, ‘commercial’ crops are cultivated in sections where the ready use of Agro-chemicals, including those banned in their countries of origin, is the norm.
Reportedly, in these sections, rules and regulations that should govern the Agro-chemicals use are flouted, since these crops have to mature fast and the produce be massive for better market prices and in a market (the local market) where phyto-sanitary requirements are overlooked & never adhered to exposing thousands of our consumers to grave poisoning and other dire consequences.
Away from the agricultural sector, hard realities persist.
In recent months scores are and have been suffering from mostly non communicable diseases(NCDs) and facing high medical bills..
While some are stranded in hospitals locally and in faraway lands since they cannot raise medical charges, others are agonizing for their dead kin whose bodies are locked in mortuaries due to high bills that are beyond reach of the kins.
Considering the diverse and various challenges and issues, our current times are evidently times of reckoning and tough realities.
These times call for fortitude and strength and powerful convictions.
These appear like times of strong faith in God almighty or a most powerful force that can work miracles….
The lyrics, “whatever will be, will be… The future is not our to tell…….”…perhaps, perhaps tell or our present circumstances.
Yet all of us must master our inner strengths, and still philosophically accept our realities and push a bit harder until the point ‘where the future is not ours to tell’
